Vote Column “A” All the Way on Tuesday June 7th
The Democratic Primary Election is this Tuesday, June 7th. I ask that you join me in supporting the Real Democrats for Hoboken slate that is running in Column “A”. Please remember the candidates for Hoboken Democratic Committee and be sure to Vote Column “A” all the way from top to bottom.
Assemblyman Ruben Ramos is running for re-election. As our Assemblyman he has stood up for Hoboken and has:
- Fought to increase state-aid for Hoboken Schools
- Fought to eliminate a state imposed surcharge on Corner Cars rentals
- Championed legislation to mandate low-cost heart screening exams for newborns that will save lives
Freeholder Anthony Romano is a tremendous advocate for our community. As our Freeholder he has:
- Fought to lower county taxes and increase county services
- Advocated for quick repairs of Sinatra Drive North and stabilization of our waterfront
- Counseled young residents on the dangers of substance abuse through the Hudson County Municipal Alliance Against Drugs and Alcohol
Unfortunately, Mayor Zimmer, who serves as Honorary Chairwoman of the Hoboken Democratic Party, is not standing up for our Democratic values. Instead, Mayor Zimmer has:
- Endorsed Republican Governor Chris Christie for reelection
- Supported the Christie administration state-aid cuts for NJ Transit, Hoboken Schools, and Women’s Healthcare Facilities
- Supported Christie’s bully tactics including his calls for “taking a bat” to 76 year-old Democratic State Senator Loretta Weinberg
With recent talks that Governor Christie may seek the Republican nomination for President, we cannot risk leaving the local party in the hands of his allies. The candidates running on the Real Democrats for Hoboken line will support President Obama and the Democratic Party, not Christie and his Republican allies.
Polls are open from 6AM to 8PM. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
Thank you for your time and support.
Beth Mason receives President Barack Obama Political Achievement Award

Last night Hoboken City Council President Beth Mason was the recipient of the Hoboken NAACP’s President Barack Obama Political Achievement Award. Mason, who grew up during the Civil Rights Movement, says that era still inspires her to be an advocate for good government and the rights of everyday people. Hoboken’s State Senator Brian P. Stack served as the key note speaker for the event.
“While many people believed racial lines would divide our nation for generations to come I knew in my heart that our generation would be the one that would invoke the changes needed to break down the walls of segregation and racial boundaries,” Mason said.
“Growing up in Virginia I saw first hand how many people from all different backgrounds came together to stand up for equal rights. When I stepped into the booth to cast my vote for President Barack Obama I thought of all the blood, sweat, and tears that brought our nation to that very moment,” Mason added.
A long time supporter of the Democratic Party, Mason and her husband, Ricky, had the opportunity to meet President Obama last year. Mason recalled discussing Hoboken with the President and getting a special surprise for a young resident.
“I told President Obama what a wonderful community Hoboken is and how people from many different backgrounds are working together to improve our community,” Mason said, “The President also signed a book for a young Hoboken resident along with a message that said ‘dream big dreams’. It was an experience I’ll never forget.”
Mason concluded by highlighting the need for Hoboken to continue to move the Mile Square City in the right direction and create opportunities that contribute to the success of the many young residents growing up there.
“We need to continue to make Hoboken an even better place to live and raise a family. We must create new parks and open space and expand recreation programs so our children have constructive ways to spend their time. We must give our young residents every opportunity to succeed so they can reach for the stars and achieve big dreams,” Mason concluded.
“Today is a historic day for Egypt and congratulations are in order for all the brave men and women who stood up for freedom. Government is meant to empower it’s citizens and whenever a government fails to put people first it is time for drastic change. Today is a victory for Egypt and the enitre free world. This shows when people come together they can have a voice and can do the impossible.”
“Lower Taxes. People First!”
2nd Ward
As the 2nd Ward’s voice on the City Council for the past four years, Beth Mason has worked with residents to keep our ward moving forward. Together Beth and the residents of the 2nd Ward have made their neighborhoods an even better place to live and raise a family.
As your Councilwoman Beth Mason initiated the largest road resurfacing project in 2nd Ward history at a time when 2nd Ward roads were becoming so run down they created a safety hazard for drivers and pedestrians.
Beth continues to fight to open the doors of government to the people of the 2nd Ward so you can see how your money is being spent. She also fought to cut spending, lower taxes, and to make sure that Hoboken’s $20 million budget surplus is used to reduce our taxes.
As Chair of the Master Plan subcommittee Beth fought to include more open space for Hoboken residents of all ages. When she took office Beth promised to see through important open space initiatives such as the Hoboken Waterfront walkway and 1600 Park. Now residents of the 2nd ward have pedestrian access to the waterfront and more parks and open space.
Recently the walkway outside of the The Shipyard buildings on Sinatra Drive North collapsed into the Hudson River. Thankfully no one was injured. Now the Mayor and City Council must make it a top priority to repair the walkway and prevent this from happening again.
Beth is working closely with Mayor Zimmer and her administration, as well as County Executive Tom DeGise and his administration, to repair this walkway as soon as possible. Repairs began in November and will be completed by May 2011. In addition to repairing the walkway, the County will also replace a newer platform just north of this site. These repairs will be paid for with federal and state grants.
Beth is advocating for an inspection of the entire waterfront to prevent road collapses from ever happening again.
By working together to lower taxes, restore roads, and create new parks Councilwoman Beth Mason and the residents of the 2nd Ward continue to make Hoboken a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
